KC Pet Project Animal Services Division

KC Pet Project’s Animal Services Division is responsible for all animal control services for the city of Kansas City, MO.

Our team is made up of a Chief of Animal Services, Animal Services Supervisors, 15 Animal Services Officers, a Manager of Animal Cruelty Investigations and Compliance, and a team of Dispatchers.

Our Animal Services Officers serves to protect the public health and safety of our community and their pets. We provide a range of services including:

  • Reconnecting lost pets with their homes
  • Providing a range of resources to pet owners and their pets
  • Investigations of animal bites and safety concerns
  • Education and community outreach
  • Response to animal-related concerns and emergencies
  • Investigations of animal cruelty and animal welfare concerns

To report any animal-related concerns or emergencies, call 311 (or 816-513-1313) between the hours of 7am-7pm Monday-Friday. For after-hours and weekend emergencies, please call 816-683-1373.

Calls for priority-related issues, such as dog bites, cruelty investigations, and emergencies are responded to before non-emergency concerns.

Lost and Found Services

KC Pet Project offers Lost and Found pets services for the City of Kansas City, MO. You can view all Lost and Found pets here.

  • If you have found a stray pet in Kansas City, MO, please visit our Found Pet Resources page. There you’ll find many resources for getting that pet back home to its family including posting on social media pages, Nextdoor, and posting Found Pet flyers.

Pet Licensing and Animal Permits

Residents are required by Chapter 14 of the Code of Ordinances to license their cats, dogs and ferrets. This can be done at KC Pet Project’s KC Campus for Animal Care and Zona Rosa adoption centers, at veterinarians’ offices if they are authorized to process licenses, or at the PetData website. You need a valid rabies certificate to purchase a license, and the cost is $12 for a one-year and $27 for a three-year.

Animal licenses are also available for non-private purposes such as animal shows, kennels, and catteries. To obtain a permit for an animal-related business or event, please visit our Permits page.

Animal Bites

If you have been bitten, attacked, or scratched by a domestic or wild animal and are in need of emergency care, call 911. If emergency care is not required, please call 311 to report the animal bite. All animal bites must be reported to KC Pet Project’s Animal Services Division.

Animal Cruelty or Neglect

If you suspect that an animal is being abused or neglected and would like to file a report, you may call 311 (816-513-1313) or submit a report below. Please note, animal cruelty investigations do not include barking dogs, loud cats, or loose animals.
