Kansas City’s favorite 5K supports the 16,000 homeless, abandoned, and often injured pets that will arrive at KC Pet Project this year.

Join KC Pet Project on Saturday, April 18, 2026 to compete in the KC Pet Project 5K! The race will take place in historic Swope Park, ending at our beautiful shelter!

All registrants will receive a race bib and commemorative race medal. Registrants will also have the opportunity to bring their dog for an additional $15 fee and add a commemorative t-shirt for an additional $10 purchase.

5K Event Parking

You can park in the paved parking lot south of Starlight theater, there are entrances to this parking lot on Mall Drive and Zoo Drive.

You will pick up your shirt at packet pickup, if you selected to receive a shirt.

Will I receive a finishers medal?

Yes, all finishers will receive a finishers medal.

What can I do to help support the pets of KC Pet Project?

Become a fundraiser! Create your own personalized fundraising page! You can raise funds as an individual and also as part of a team. You’ll be helping the more than 16,000 lost, abandoned, and often injured pets that receive love and medical care at KC Pet Project each year!

Are pets allowed at this race?

YES! For the first time ever, KC Pet Project will allow you to register your pet to run the race for an additional fee of $15 (one dog per runner)! Please note, your dog must be at least 4 months old, fully vaccinated, and in good health to participate.

Will sponsors have a chance to table this event?

Yes, sponsors who give $2,500 or more can have a table/tent at the After-Race Festival. This year, the race will end at our shelter and we will give runners the chance to meet foster dogs, grab coffee from the Roasterie and interact with our fabulous sponsors with a festival like atmosphere.

What is the After-Race Festival?

For our 5th annual run, we are turning our usual after-race party into an After-Race Restival! The runners will finish in the front parking lot of our shelter to receive their medals. There will be fun photo ops, a chance to meet with foster dogs in our lobby, delicious coffee and pasteries available at our Roasterie, and the opportunity to interact with our sponsors.
