Human Animal Support Services (HASS)

KC Pet Project is a proud pilot shelter participating in a new animal welfare model, Human Animal Support Services (HASS)

Human Animal Support Services (HASS), a new animal welfare organizational model, will implement a new range of services for pets and people in 18 pilot cities, helping keep more animals in their homes and communities and reducing the number entering the shelter system through programs and resources.

The ideas for HASS were born during the early days of COVID-19, as the pandemic resulted in record numbers of pets being housed in the community through pet foster care.

We recently launched our Keep ‘Em Together, KC program that will aim to provide many of the resources listed in the HASS model.

Other new programs, career opportunities, and services that will be launched in the next year include:

  • Human Animal Support Services (HASS) Hotline
  • Pet pantry and outreach supplies
  • Community partnerships/collaboration with human social service orgs and animal welfare agencies
  • Keep ‘Em Home volunteer field team
  • Get ‘Em Home volunteer team for Lost & Found pets
  • Admissions/Pet Resource Specialists
  • Community Veterinary and Emergency Services
  • Community Engagement/Tag & Collar & Chip events
  • Short term emergency boarding
  • Plus expanding on existing programs like our Foster and Volunteer programs
