Changes in KC Campus For Animal Care Hours

KCCAC hour changes

KC Pet Project continues to experience a record numbers of pets coming into the shelter this summer with more than 1,600 new pets entering our doors in June. Due to staffing limitations and the volume of pets that are being cared for, the shelter will be reducing hours of operation at the KC Campus for Animal Care which will go into effect on Monday, August 1st until further notice.

KC Campus for Animal Care Adoption Center Hours:

Monday-Saturday: 1:00-6:00pm

Sunday: 1:00-5:00pm

KC Campus for Animal Care Admissions and Pet Support Center Hours:

Monday-Friday: 10:00am-6:00pm

Saturday & Sunday: 10:00am-5:00pm

Due to staffing limitations, we will not be scheduling owner surrender appointments on Saturdays and Sundays.

“Simply put, we have too many animals in our care for the number of staff we have currently to care for them, and until we can fill our open positions, we must take action now to reduce the number of animals in our care,” said Tori Fugate, chief communications office at KC Pet Project. “The number of dogs coming in is outpacing the number of dogs being adopted daily or the number of animals that can be returned home to their families. We’ve been taking in 40-50 new pets every day, 7-days a week, with an average of 25 new dogs arriving every day since May. These skyrocketing numbers are not sustainable or manageable to save lives in our community and for our staff to provide the level of care we strive to give at KC Pet Project. Our hope is that we can go back to our standard hours of operation at a future date once we are fully staffed.”

Our shelter is currently hiring for full-time and part-time positions across the organization and offers a comprehensive benefits package for staff. We are hosting open interviews tomorrow at the KC Campus for Animal Care from 9:30-11:30am.
