How You Can Support KC Pet Project in 2024

kcpp year end 2023

2023 will go down in the record books as one of the toughest years we’ve had at KC Pet Project.  A total of 15,631 animals in need came to KCPP in 2023 – including a record-setting number of dogs.  We cared for 8,420 dogs and 6,888 cats, as well as 323 other animals – such as chickens, rabbits, pigs, goats, snakes, lizards, guinea pigs, rats, and an occasional alligator.  No matter the challenge (and we had a LOT of challenges in 2023), our team of staff and volunteers worked together, found solutions, and faced them head on with dedication and a commitment to our mission and to our community.  We ended 2023 with a Save Rate of 93.4%.

How can we continue to save lives in 2024? We don’t anticipate these numbers to slow down, and we’ll need everyone’s support to continue to help the pets of Kansas City. Here’s how you can support us in 2024.

Adopt –

We have hundreds of available pets looking for homes right now at KC Pet Project. When you come to one of our adoption centers to adopt a new pet, our team is working as quickly as we can to help match you with a new best friend and make the best matches for you and our pets.

Volunteer –

Whether providing direct care for shelter pets, supporting administration efforts, or preserving the human-animal bond through pet support services, community programs, and community engagement, our volunteers make a big difference each and every day.

The impact of you, as a KC Pet Project volunteer, is felt by every animal in our care and every pet family we support. You are contributing to progressive lifesaving by partnering with KC Pet Project and the community to help pets both inside and outside of the shelter, and helping create a compassionate, safe community for pets and people. Signing up is easy and you can get started at the link below.

Foster –

If you can open your hearts and homes to a pet in need, we are asking for your help to temporarily house a shelter dog or cat in your home. Our biggest need right now is for foster homes for large, adult dogs. Sign up to foster today.

Dog Day Out –

You can take a dog out for the day and give them a break from the shelter! A recent study found that dogs that go on Dog Day Outs are 5 times more likely to get adopted. Signing up is easy and you can pick up a dog from any of our locations. Learn more and sign up at the link below.

Come Work with Us –

KC Pet Project is hiring for a number of positions. Our organization offers competitive salaries, paid health insurance, a 401k, paid time off, discounts on pet supplies, and other great benefits. Make a difference in the lives of homeless pets at KC Pet Project and apply today.

Other Support –

Record numbers of animals arriving in need of care means our costs for operations has increased dramatically.

Donations go such a long way to help us sustain the care that we provide to pets in need. Become a Loyal Companion of KC Pet Project and provide a sustainable gift to our community’s pets. A gift of $12 a month can vaccinate 4 pets that come to our shelter to keep our community’s pets healthy. You can also donate in-kind items through our Amazon or Chewy charity wish lists.

As we celebrate our 12 year anniversary as an organization, we continue to ask for your support as we work to find new homes for pets in need, keep more families together, and provide sheltering and animal services support for this city that we all love and its pets.
