Meet The Friends of KC Pet Project Board of Directors

michelle illig
Michelle Illig
President

A Chicago native, Michelle ventured to Kansas City following her graduation from the University of Missouri in 2012. While she thought KC would be a temporary post-grad adventure, she fell in love with this “hidden gem” and has been here ever since. Although Michelle studied both Journalism and Italian, it was her love for philanthropy and organizational studies that led her to an unexpected minor in Non-Profit Leadership & Public Service. Michelle is very invested in the community, but her passion for pets and animal welfare brought her to KC Pet Project. Michelle spends a lot of time cheering on all of her Mizzou, KC, and Chicago sports teams, and she also enjoys hanging by the pool with friends, brunch, and having fun with her dogs; an energetic Pomeranian and two British Black Labs.

Sarah McDonald
Treasurer

An animal lover from the start, as a little girl Sarah ran on stage during a live recording of WGN’s The Bozo Show to pet a bunny. As an adult, she is a proud mother of cats living in the historic Waldo Kansas City neighborhood with her husband, Matt, and still cannot resist petting animals at any opportunity. Sarah was born in Chicago, but grew up in Overland Park, Kansas. Following in her sister’s footsteps (the one that boosted her onto the Bozo Show stage), Sarah decided to attend the University of Kansas and graduated in 2004 with her degree in Business Administration. In her professional experience, she has developed a strong background in event management and constituent engagement. In her personal life, Sarah loves to run the Trolley Trail, cook and craft. She has volunteered with several animal rescue groups in Kansas City over the years, specifically as event staff and development support. “Always set yourself up for success” is her motto and her goal is to support the Kansas City community though dedicated service to KC Pet Project.

Jayme Quisenberry
Secretary

Jayme landed in Kansas City to begin her career at Cerner Corporation in 2012 after graduating from the University of Missouri. Since moving, she has fallen in love with KC and all it has to offer. Jayme has an English Bulldog, Walter, that she adores despite his snoring. She is a friend to every animal she meets, and she is excited to bring her affection for animals and desire to give back to the Friends of KC Pet Project organization. In her free time, Jayme teaches fitness classes at Power Life, loves to explore local hot spots, and cheers on her favorite sports teams; the Tigers, Chiefs, and Royals.

Beth Shelly
Director

Originally from St. Louis, Beth began her move across I-70; first to Columbia where she attended the University of Missouri, and after graduation to Kansas City. While a piece of her heart will always belong to St. Louis, Kansas City has become the city she has fallen in love with and is now her home community. Beth’s love for her goldendoodle, Olivia (really all animals), and the community that has embraced them led to her involvement with Friends of KC Pet Project. Beth spends her free time with family and friends on the lake. She loves water sports, wakeboarding, and skiing in particular, as well as forcing her goldendoodle to pretend to like the water as much as she does. Beth is excited to bring her love for her new home town and animals together to support this great cause.
