KC Pet Project Hosting Thankful for a Home Metro-wide Foster Event

Event Aims to Send More than 100 Pets into Foster Homes for Holiday Season

KC Pet Project is hosting a three-day event at the KC Campus for Animal Care from Thursday, November 18th through Saturday, November 20th with the goal of sending more than 100 dogs and cats into temporary foster homes ahead of the holiday season. During the Thankful for a Home Foster Event, sponsored by Petsmart Charities, members of the community can sign up to be a foster home for a shelter pet to give a dog or cat the opportunity to live in a temporary home for the holiday season, rather than in the shelter.

To sign up for an appointment to foster a pet, visit Appointments are available every hour at the KC Campus for Animal Care from 9am-7pm during the three-day event.

Free tshirt that our fosters will receive for the event

In addition, the shelter will host an Open House event on Saturday, November 20th, at 10:00am where those who are interested in fostering a pet can come to learn more from the KC Pet Project foster team, as well as hear from those who already foster for the organization.

All individuals who participate in this special event will receive a one-of-a kind I Foster, I Save Lives event t-shirt.  Dog fosters will go home with a fun nylon backpack filled with food, a collar, KC Pet Project leash, bowls, a wire crate, a Kong toy, and treats. Cats fosters will receive a litter box, blanket, cat litter, bowls, scoop, wet and dry cat foods, toys, carrier, and Ziwi cat treats.

KC Pet Project is on track to care for more pets in 2021 than any other year in the organization’s history and the individuals and families who foster for the organization are helping the shelter save lives during this historic year.

“Our foster families provide so much support for our organization, and our pets would much rather spend the Thanksgiving holiday in a home than in the shelter” said Tori Fugate, Chief Communications Officer with KC Pet Project. “When our foster families open their homes to a pet in need, this provides kennel space for the next pet that comes to our shelter. This also gives our pets the opportunity to olive in a home where they will be more comfortable and show their true personalities. This event will help us make much-needed space for our community’s pets in need as we go into the holiday season.”

Time commitments range for foster families but KC Pet Project is asking for all families to commit to 4-6 weeks. Large, adult dogs and adult cats will be available for families to foster during this event. Families will have the opportunity market their pets for adoption and pet supplies, medical and behavior resources are provided at no charge by the organization to assist the families in their fostering efforts.

If you cannot foster or adopt, please consider a donation to help KC Pet Project care for the record number of pets that are coming to our shelter. You can also visit the shelter wish list and Amazon Wish List to see our most needed items. Donations support the foster families who provide temporary care for shelter pets.
