KC Pet Project announces new Executive Director

teresaKC Pet Project Board of Directors announced today they have completed their
nationwide search and have promoted Teresa Johnson to Executive Director of the
nonprofit organization. Teresa had been the Director of Shelter Operations at
the KC Pet Project since the organization took over running the Kansas City,
Missouri Animal Shelter on January 1, 2012 and had been acting as the Interim
Executive Director since June 1, 2012.  Under Teresa’s leadership, the
organization has achieved record-breaking positive outcomes (no-kill status)
every month for the past 5 months and was responsible for the opening of a
second Pet Adoption Center in Zona Rosa where 115 pets have been adopted in
less than 30 days.  She has a long career in animal welfare prior to her
work at the KC Pet Project, previously as President/Chief Operations Officer of
Heartland SPCA, and CEO/Executive Director of Animal Haven, along with serving
ten years on the Board of Directors for Wayside Waifs.

This announcement comes at a busy time for KC Pet Project.  On Friday,
December 14th the organization launches their “A Home for the Holidays”
adoption & foster campaign.  From December 14th-23rd you pick any
adult dog or cat in the Kansas City, Missouri Animal Shelter – or at our new
Pet Adoption Center in Zona Rosa – and YOU get to choose the adoption fee.
This special excludes puppies, kittens, and specialty breeds.  All
adoption fees includes spay/neuter surgery, microchip, deworming,
age-appropriate vaccinations and 30 days of Shelter Care pet insurance – a $400
value.  The shelter is full of great dogs and cats, including purebred and
small breeds, and they are all ready to go home with you! To view all of the
available pets at the Kansas City, Missouri Animal Shelter, please go to the
website at

Not looking to adopt? Fostering a dog or cat for the holidays is a very
rewarding experience – both for you and the animal you foster, and it saves the
life of that pet and the next one that comes to the shelter.  Many of the
animals in the shelter would benefit from time away from the shelter – a warm
fireplace, some quiet time, and a soft bed to call their own.  Signing up
to become a foster parent for KC Pet Project is easy! The application is
available online on the KC Pet Project website. The shelter hopes to find placement
for 200 pets during this campaign.
