Whether you are looking to adopt or if you’ve visited and didn’t find your perfect match, we’d love for you to visit KC Pet Project and adopt your new best friend.
Here is some additional information to aid with your search of your new pet and also getting involved with KC Pet Project.
Sign up to receive email or text alerts when the pet matching your desired criteria is made available. You can make selections based on breed, age, color, and more. You can also opt out of these alerts at any time.

All pets who enter the shelter as lost or found are placed on a 5 day holding period to give an owner a chance to reclaim them. If they are not reclaimed by their owners by the time the holding period is done, they can be placed up for adoption.
During this hold period, a potential adopter may put an Early Bird Hold on a pet for a $50 deposit. On the date that the pet is made available, you would have the first right to adopt that pet.
Fostering a pet gives them a break from the shelter and helps us get to know our pets in a home environment. With so many pets entering our shelter each day, foster homes are needed to help make space for our new arrivals. There are many opportunities for fostering including:

Your donation to KC Pet Project will provide food, medicine, and care to the 15,000 pets that the shelter will take in during the year. We thank you for your support of Kansas City’s pets.
Your support will enable KC Pet Project to provide:
$250 – Five spay/neuter surgeries for pets at the shelter.
$100 – Four cans of formula to feed baby kittens or puppies.
$50 – Four cases of canned food for dogs or cats.
$25 – Vaccinations and a microchip for one pet in our care.
